The primary goal of this training is to introduce biblical counseling to the participants through reading articles and books that build a biblical understanding of the person and apply the person and work of Jesus to various struggles. In addition, these principles will be personally applied by the participant through a change project. Finally, participants will observe and engage in the practice of counseling.
Participants will commit to a nine month, small group not exceeding 10 people. There will be at least one counseling team member facilitating the group. The group will meet three times a month, as organized by the facilitator. We will read a variety of foundational counseling books and articles, as well as go through multiple 31- and 50-day devotionals dealing with suffering and sin. Throughout the course of the group, there will be opportunities for members to practice basic counseling methods and apply them to other members of the group as well as themselves.
